Jesus says that he is the way, the truth, and the life. I try to follow his way on a daily basis, I don’t always succeed but I learn from my failures and keep on trying. So, what does it mean to follow his way? For me it means to treat others as Jesus did, with love, compassion, patience, and forgiveness. These four virtues were very difficult for me to incorporate into my life, because I had a distorted view of them. Love was painful, experienced through constant rejection by my father and others. I did not know what compassion was until sometime after I accepted Jesus. The virtue of patience was foreign to me, it was not something that I had experienced. Forgiveness was the saying “what goes around, comes around”, in other words something will hurt you to make up for you hurting me. I am amazed at the commitment Jesus has in teaching me his way. The walls that I built to protect myself were many, and were thick and strong. They have been coming down, one by one through his love and commitment for the well-being of my soul.
It has taken me a long time to be the person that I am now. I see people with a different light, a light of love, compassion, patience, and forgiveness. I do my best to act on these virtues in the hope that they will see Jesus through my actions.
There are many other virtues that I need to learn, and I now know that I am on the right path because my soul is at peace, a peace that I never expected or thought possible.
Jesus said that when we see him, we see his father (God), and that he only does what he sees his father doing. Because I accept that about Jesus, I now see God in a very different light, the light of love. Thank you, Jesus for continuing your work in me, and for bringing my soul to a place of peace and love.
